Joe Denly has confirmed he’ll open for England at the fourth Ashes Test match at Old Trafford with Jason Roy dropping down to # 4.
Denly batted in Antigua, handling dozens of six and 17.
The transferred down to # 3 in his next game in St Lucia, hitting his inaugural Test to help set up a success.
“I’ve got a call (captain) Joe Root after a bit of time off and that he said he’d like me to go at the top of the order and try to get us off to a good start,” he is reported to have said by PA Media. “Clearly Jason (Roy) will bat four and that is great for English cricket.
“With Jason Roy from the group we’re a much better team and together with him coming in at four, hopefully with the new ball worn and myself along with Rory Burns doing our job on very top, it allows him to come in and play his manner. He’s a great player to have there.”
But, Denly batted in Lord prior to England captain snare opted to transfer a spot in the batting line-up at the beginning of this Ashes pushing the Kent batsman to # 4.
He shared an important partnership with Root in the final innings of the third Test at Headingley.
Roy has struggled throughout the series against Australia, in which he’s scored only 57 runs in six innings was brought in for the string following his launching heroics in white-ball cricket from the new ball.
